Good question – and here’s one theory on the whole right/left brain thing and a way of testing your brain. I recently remembered a great episode of Catalyst on the abc (Australia) which reported on the theory of brain switching, claiming that our brains are pre-programmed. Scientists, monks, artists all have distinctive rates at which the brain can swap activity from right to left brain and vice versa. We can all do this, but the results may be more pronounced between highly “CREATIVE” and highly “LOGICAL” brains. One of the claims is that the ‘switch rate’ may be predetermined from birth and affect our careers…
I thought I’d reproduce the test here (which is an cool illusion – and I remember being quite surprised how the dots REALLY dissapeared).

* Concentrate on the top left yellow dot. As you stare at this dot, the other dots will begin to disappear. Each time all three dots re-appear, tick the paper.

I am an averaged switcher but we all know i just did it so i can balance out the ones that gets low…hehehe

I got 5. Interestingly – the top right dot kept appearing on it’s own, before the other one faded in less often.
The two dots were pulsing on and off to a slow beat – 9 in total. After I read the documentation I can understand why this might happen… I took dance classes from the age of 4 to 19, so I my case it may be taught. I’m also an extremely detail focused person, so much that I often get distracted by bright colours or movement behind someone I’m talking to, and I often find myself apologising for it.

The two dots somehow disappear alternately. And the process is not steady. Sometines they fully disppear and sometimes they just become dimmer. How wide my TV set screen should be? I guess guys whith smaller TV sets should sit closer
Nice theory by the way. Epspessially in the sence of studing depression disorder. I think it has the opportunity to make a boom in the near future.

What dots.
It seems to be whenever I blink, or when I move my eyes slightly.
If I concentrate on not moving my eyes, I don’t see the other dots until I have to blink
the other top right dot faded and stayed that way. The bottom dot faded and then switched once. I’m not sure what that means. Scientifically oriented or eyesight is failing.

I took it the first time and got 11… when I took it again I got 14. They actually were diappearing and flashing back disturbingly fast and bright, like if someone was trying to hypnotize me… making me dizzy and made my eyes twitch and burt. First time I only got 2 or 3, mainly because I had trouble focusing on one point since I have impaired vision but wear no glasses or contact lenses. But I tried again twice, because I know I suck at math, and fair enough, I got 6 last time, so I guess I have average/high average!
I’m not sure how but after trying numerous times, I managed to lower my score, and now I can score from one to 7. the more focused you are on the upper left dot the fewer blinks, and you can’t pay attention to the blue dots, it’s hard but you have to try to forget about them, and the more erratic you allow your thoughts to become the more blinks.
